Time to Hop!

hopping.... eventually.....
So here we are again, at a Friday, which means it's time to Hop!  Hosted by Jennifer at Crazy for Books, the Book Blogger Hop lasts Friday - Monday, and is a great way to travel around, visiting and discovering blogs.  I always find someone new to add to my "follow" list -- and it's nice to say hello to bloggers I visit on a regular basis.

This week's question comes from Marce, who asks: "What very popular and hyped book in the blogosphere did you NOT enjoy and how did you feel about posting your review?"    The one book that comes to mind that I saw loads and loads about, and which just didn't resonate with me was Paolo Bacigalupi's The Windup Girl.   I never wrote a review on the book because I got about halfway through and it just didn't keep my attention.   This book was nominated for several awards, and won the Nebula this year, as well as the Campbell Award, and a lot of people really loved the book.  However, I just couldn't get into it.  I figure it's just a case of "good book, bad timing," and plan to pick it up and try again in the future.   I did enjoy Bacigalupi's YA book, Ship Breaker, however, and posted a review on that.

Happy Hopping, everyone!!!

I really fell for the hype of The Lonely Hearts Club, and I ended up really disliking it. It was so ridiculously over-the-top and much too scream-y for me haha

Happy Friday, Jo! :)

"Good book, bad timing" has definitely afflicted me several times although it's also possible that it's just not my type of book.

Jo! Your blog revamp is beautiful!

Just hopping on in, my pick was Halo. There was such a buzz and it was horrible. *shudders*

Happy Hopping!

I've never heard of that one. It was obviously before I found out about book blogs :)

The "good book, bad timing" things has afflicted me many different times. I appreciate some of the books I read in high school more when I read them a couple of years ago. But, they still weren't favorites.

I really want to read The Windup Girl, but haven't gotten to it yet.

Hello! Hopping by! I haven't read The Windup Girl. I have ShipBreaker though and it's on my TBR list. I'd like to check out some of the Angry Robot books, though. Have a great weekend :)

it's so funny you should say The Windup Girl, because I couldn't get into that one either. It was supposed to be mind blowing, and the biggest thing since sliced bread, it was supposed to change the genre forever!

I put it down after 50 pages and never picked it back up.

I've been meaning to give The Wind Up Girl a read. I did read Shipbreaker and thought if was alright. Nothing in particular was "bad" it just didn't speak to me. I did like the storyline and thought it felt like The Island of Dr. Moreau meets Pirates of the Caribbean.

Hi, returning your visit!
I haven't tried The Wind Up Girl, but gave up on Shipbreaker. I hope it is a case of timing because I'd love to try it again some day.
