I really wanted to give a teaser from the new book I'm halfway through, but I forgot to grab it ---- so instead, here's my teaser from another book I'm starting today: "Secrets and lies were inevitable given the inequalities. Sometimes, they were part of the job. 'Mrs. Woolf is not at home,' servants frequently lied as they got rid of unwanted guests."
